Plus it gives you the option to “Re-Blog this”.  Very cool.  Or you can just mark it as liked and save it for latter content or reference.  Unfortunately they have not integrated this into a platform similar to Digg, or Stumble Upon, where your liked posts get tallied in with other WordPress Bloggers.  That would give them one more weapon in their arsenal and make blogging on wordpress that much more attractive for addict bloggers.

Just a few random thoughts from the guy that does pest control – You Like this Post?  Click it. Like it. Love it.

I like some of what it said here. It seems that Lawrence has his game plan worked out and moving well for him. Rateitall.com is a goldmine of an idea. However, I do disagree with a couple of things.

1- Content is for google first. So do I write content to be found or do I write content to convert sales? The problem with mass media is that it is ignored by the masses. If my content is written to get more visitors then great, but I would prefer more sales. I am split on this, as you have to get traffic to get online sales, but you still want to keep the real focus and vision in mind when right content. What’s that about a cart getting a head of a horse? Or a horse pulling an empty cart?

2- Who doesn’t like to win an award? – I could care less if you gave me the noble peace prize at this point. Why? Because of its past winners it has come to mean nothing to me. An award giving out of flattery is meaningless. Of course, I do like awards that carry a real value. And yes, everyone wants to be appreciated so if the award means something, then great otherwise, handing me a Trojan horse isn’t going to get you very far.

Foursquare: The value of mobile-local-geo-map-apps

supermayor big Foursquare: The value of mobile local geo map appsBlogging today and I came across an article about the FourSquare Economy. http://www.conversationalcurrency.com/7665/the-foursquare-economy/

They stated that they believe foursquare lacks something…

Here is what they do not have (yet): Currency

I admit that foursquare and similar mobile-local-geo-map-apps are cutting innovation and hold great value. Not sure I would go as far as it’s own economy in need of a currency.

True, American Express has their Rewards Economy. Southwest has their frequent flyer economy of scale. But who is going to manage, control, and place a value on a FourSquare Dollar? Further, would adding a currency to FourSquare de-value it? I know how do you de-value something that doesn’t have a currency…

But part of the value foursquare offers is that it is a free economy where the audience gives feedback for free, and companies can reward their star consumers, for free. Would the foursquare economy collapse if the governing body restricted this free trade of goods between consumers and businesses by adding a currency or taxation?

The value of foursquare varies by the business owner. Foursquare governs this mobile-local-geo-map-apps-population. Foursquare would then need to tax either it’s users or the businesses. Taxing the FourSquare Citizens is not a good idea. Putting a business tax in play to do business in your mobile-local-geo-map-apps-community may work. Taxation with representation? The business benefit must have value in order for businesses to willingly submit to paying the FourSquare Government.

FourSquare’s current currency is points that expire at the end of each week. None renewable. None transferable. And just a little bit of None-sense. The points are only good for bragging rights. But those bragging rights are lost on most because most don’t wear FourSquare Badges like Boy Scout Patches… although you can buy them online here and show your true nerdiness-est.

Gowalla, on the other hand, uses tradeable items. Prairie Dogs, Boots, hats… You can drop and pick up items as you travel. Does that make their currency more valuable?

I use to be a wedding photographer in Phoenix, AZ. I still love photography. But you do loose a little bit of the fun when you are shooting for pay. So not sure if I admit with adding a currency to Foursquare.

The value that FourSquare holds will be exploited and used by gold diggers.

Thanks for joining the conversation!… meaning please add your comments.

Blogging, Pest Control, & FTC

Interesting read today from Fox news on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).  This is something that would effect Sapulpa companies as they are prone to adding links and building blogs to get more traffic.  The FTC has voted to regulate blogging and fine those that are posting product reviews for money.  They believe that these reviews are misleading in that the consumer is unaware if the review is a organic unsolicited review or if the review is paid for by the product company.  Further, many of these sites and reviews sign on as affiliates and receive a commission if the product is bought through their site.

The law will require that bloggers must make it known that they are being paid in a “clear and conspicuous” manner and the law goes into force December 1st, 2009. The law does not require notification for “free” products, meaning if I where to offer you free pest control service in exchange for a review then you are not required to disclose that you are receiving free service. While these regulations may make many bloggers nervous, the FTC says that they intend to target the companies and advertisers.  This actually makes me more nervous as a pest control company.

Let’s say that I am paying an Sapulpa company to build my site and back links.  How can I be sure that the Sapulpa company I hire is adhering to this law?  Who then is responsible, the Sapulpa company or the pest control company?  Further, this law seems very inadequate.  How do you define a “review” of a company or a review of a product?  How will the FTC distinguish between legitimate customers reviewing a product or service versus the paid reviews? And what about blogs that benefit indirectly from their reviews (i.e. Google adsense)?

Or better yet define “clear and conspicuous”. How do I know if this site “clearly and conspicuously” show that I am a Bulwark employee.  Is the facebook profile on the left sufficient or do I need to disclose this in every post?  Beyond that this blog isn’t purely a Bulwark blog, its my own blog and thoughts as well.  Bulwark does not sanction everything written on this blog and I am not really getting paid directly for my content.

Overall, however, I applaud the FTC’s attempt to regulate this gross flood of solicited reviews. It is unfortunate that so many companies and individuals are cashing in on the naive public.  Having worked on the internet for sometime I myself spot the propaganda reviews and comments regularly. In fact, there are entire blogs that look like just a single user reviewing everyday products, but in fact are a paid blogger.

As far as I am aware Bulwark has not overstepped these requirements.  But, again, I am unaware of every attempt hired Sapulpa firms have undergone to boost my web presence. Further, I don’t know how they define “clear and conspicuous”.  Hopefully a site that is owned by Bulwark is clear. But, it does sound  like I will need to check in on my Sapulpa team, and I would advise all internet advertisers and business owners to do the same. Don’t get caught with your pants down.

From your Pest Control Sapulpa guy.

This post was not directly paid for by Bulwark Exterminating, however the writter is biased as to which pest control service is the best.
